Machu Picchu Inca Trail

Itinerary (4D/3N):
Days 1-2: Inka Trail 12 Km (L, D)
Cusco – Wayllabamba
In the morning, after breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel and transferred through the Sacred Valley of the Inkas to Kilometer 82, where the Inka trail begins. The trail starts by crossing the Vilcanota River and then curving steeply upwards. Later on you’ll see the extensive Inca fort of Patallacta. After camping overnight, on Day 2, you will climb up from Wayllabamba and follow the Llulluchayoc River. Hiking further through spectacular terrain you’ll reach the first and highest pass of the trail: Abra de Warmiwañusqa (Dead Woman’s Pass). This is the most difficult part of the trail. 2nd campsite will be made at Pacaymayo.
Days 3-4: From Pacaymayo, you’ll climb up to the archaeological site of Runkuracay and, as you continue hiking, you’ll reach the second pass, Abra de Runcuracay. Later, you’ll reach the ancient town of Sayacmarca (Inaccessible Town) As you follow the path you’ll start to descend into magnificent cloud forest. You’ll pass by a magnificent Inka Tunnel. You’ll then reach the third pass, from which you will have an excellent view of snow-capped peaks, and then Phuyupatamarca (City inside the Clouds), which. After descending 2000 stairs and about 3 hours of walking through magnificent cloud forest, you’ll arrive in Wiñaywuayna (Forever Young). Visit the nearby archeological complex of Wiñaywuayna, which is made up of magnificent agricultural terraces.
Day 4: Wake up while it is still dark (4:00 am) in order to walk the last part of the trail and reach Machupicchu to observe the sunrise. Achieve the final pass at Intipunku (the Gate of the Sun). Suddenly, the whole glory of Machupicchu is spread out before you. After watching the sunrise, enjoy your guided tour of Citadel. Next day, optionally visit the hot springs in Aguas Calientes, at the foot of Machupicchu. In the afternoon you will be taken to the Aguas Calientes train Station to board your train back to Cusco. |
