Magnificent Peru

Magnificent Peru (15d/14n) - Detailed

Welcome to Lima, Peru
Reception and assistance at Jorge Chávez Airport in Lima. From there you will be accompanied to your hotel by our representative.
The city of Lima was founded by Francisco Pizarro during his conquest of South America in 1535. It was the main vice-royalty of western South America, and the focal point for Spanish control and domination of the region through the middle of the eighteenth century. Its highly stylized architecture, which can be seen in its churches, museums and government buildings, bears witness to its colonial past. This coastal metropolis was once considered to be among the principal cities of the world.
It is known today for its wonderful cuisine, including many varieties of ceviche, a typical Peruvian dish made with raw fish marinated in lime and accompanied by onions, cilantro, and hot peppers.

Free morning in Lima to rest and explore the City of Kings
You will be transferred from your hotel to the Bus Station for your Bus (Crucero Service VIP) Lima-Nazca.
When you arrive in Nazca, our representative will transfer you to your hotel.
The Nazca region is watered by the Rio Grande de Nazca, which consists of converging streams and rivers that flow from above, in the high regions of the Andes. The Nazca River and the Ica River are major tributaries. This is a dry and desolate region that receives very little annual rainfall. The lowlands are particularly affected by the lack of available moisture.
The Nazca people of ancient times created a complex system of irrigation, with reservoirs and aqueducts. They were known, too, for their fine pottery and textiles. Their designs included a creature that resembles a Killer Whale, a catlike being, and a humanlike creature that has been called the “mythical anthropomorphic being,” or the “Spaceman.”

Nazca / Arequipa (B): Flying over the Nazca Lines / Chauchilla Cemetery / Bus Nazca-Arequipa
You’ll take a flight over the Nazca Lines, an enormous network of lines in the forms of plants and animals, considered to be the largest astronomical calendar in the world. (Area = 350 km2). The figures you will see include enormous representations of a monkey, a hummingbird, a condor, and a strange creature known as the Spaceman.
Later, you will visit the pre-Inca graveyard of Chauchilla. For many years this region was looted by treasure hunters, who robbed the treasures that had been buried with the mummies for centuries. These grave robbers left behind the skeletal remains, which can be seen scattered on the ground, along human hairs, ceramic fragments and other remains dispersed on the desert surface.
In the evening, you will be transferred to the bus station to take a bus to the City of Arequipa (Crucero Service VIP). You will be met and assisted upon your arrival in the Arequipa Bus Station. Transfer to your hotel.
